And Just Like That!

And just like that, February is almost over!

Hope you had a lovely Valentine's Day!

I always have the urge to declutter or just rummage through my collections when it's cold outside. So there I was going through my vintage trim collection, when I came across some fabulous pieces of trim. One is actually a belt.  They look super cute on my "favorite" vintage dress form.

This has to be one of my favorite photos ever!

I was so fortunate to have two wonderful friends give me flowers for my birthday! What a way to bring spring in!

Speaking of flowers: I love love love this vintage floral painting I picked up at a garage sale many years ago. I think that even without a frame it's super.

Especially surrounded by a few of my sea shells collection.

I wanted to show you how playing around with most of the same items can really change a vignette. This was one in my booth at the Carriage House. 

It's fun to play around with items you already have but also to add a few "new" things. I try to change things around in my booth weekly so it never looks completely the same.

The gold really pops!

I couldn't take the winter collections in my house any more this weekend. I wanted a splash of spring so I put away the Valentine's decor and brought out the Easter and Spring. I'll show you some pictures next post. 

This picture is from my booth and the cutest vintage Easter items I just put in. I needed that splash of spring!

I hope you marked your calendars for March 8th for the Elgin High School Flea Market.  I'm selling in the gym in space 180. If you were there last year, I'm in the same space. I have been busy pricing and organizing my treasures.  It's always a fun sale. Just remember that daylight savings time begins that day so turn your clocks ahead 1 hour.

Also remember that the Vintage Shop Hop  is that weekend on Friday and Saturday. (Some shops are open on Sunday). The Carriage House is participating on Friday and Saturday.  So Sunday is free for you to stop by the Elgin High School Flea Market.

Rummage sales are starting in March so get ready!  Happy treasure hunting!

January Ramblings

Welcome January and all its' cold and snow!  Happy New Year!

I spent some time in early January in New Jersey visiting with family and friends. The temperature hit a record 70 degrees on a few days. It was so warm the day I was in Atlantic City. A walk on the boardwalk was picture perfect!

Before I left I found this treasure at an estate sale....

I love these vintage Easter chicks!  I'm keeping them as a part of my collection.

Originally I bought this stool to sell but once it was home, I just couldn't part with it yet. It's perfect in my basement.

March 8 is the Elgin High School Flea Market in Elgin. I will be a vendor again this year! As soon as I know my location I'll let you know. It's a well attended flea market with many many great vendors. It's a mix of vintage, new, crafts and food but one of the best flea markets around held once a year. Make sure to mark your calendar.

That same weekend, March 6-7 is the Vintage Shop Hop with over 500 shops in WI and IL. Carriage House will be participating again this year.

I often get asked where did my love of vintage come from? So, I went through my baby photo album and decided to show you.

We had an aluminum tree for years until my brothers and I begged our mom to let us get a green tree since everyone else had one. She did. I'm still wishing we had not gotten rid of that tree.  So you see, vintage has been with me since I was born.

The joy that comes over me every year as I dig out my vintage collection to decorate my home fills my heart.

I have really pared down my collection over the years but still have lots to decorate with.

I originally had this bottom painting at the Carriage House but pulled it to keep. I just wasn't ready to part with it yet.

I love this sequin banner I found this year. Another thing I'm not ready to part with.

I like to mix vintage with new.

Such a super cute ladies head vase.

My friend gifted me with this stand. She knows me well! She knew I would love it.

My vintage corsage collection grew by only a few this year. This is only one of four milk glass cake stands that hold them.

I missed the smell of a real tree so we went back to one this year.

My real tree is decorated with newer ornaments, vintage inspired, crafted ones, some from vacations and ones my kids made.

My three aluminum trees are decorated by theme. Santa, breakable ornaments and figure ornaments.

I've spent the day getting the house ready for Christmas. I made the centerpiece from a thrifted wreath and mason jars that I covered with glittered snowflakes and filled with fake branches. I'll be giving the mason jar vases as gifts to our friends and family that come over. They were fun to make. This is the first year that I didn't use a vintage tablecloth. I bought this one from TJMaxx.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! Many blessings to you.....

I have been wanting to decorate for Christmas but decided to hold off until after Thanksgiving. It's been hard to do that, so I added a wreath to a dress form in my dining room to help soothe the decorating urge.

It's the perfect wreath for this dress form.

I recently added a cement cherub into my dining room. I found these two at an estate sale and decided to keep the one on the left. It has a pedestal for more height and the aged patina is extraordinary.

I have been so busy keeping my space at Carriage House Antiques filled with vintage Christmas. Christmas sales have begun in the store and we are focusing the specials on certain items each week.

The Shops at Ridgefield  are having their Holiday Open House this weekend of November 29. I stopped in last weekend and found this awesome pixie tree and vintage beaded ornaments at Vintage VanBorg. 

All I did was add a vintage receipt holder to the bottom.  Love it!

I bought this fabulous Victorian bassinet from Steeplechase Antiques in Barrington.  I had been eyeing it for sometime and when the price was right, I had to have it! I'm fooling around with evergreen decor and wreaths right now to decorate it out in my sun room. It is the perfect amount of chippy and rust.

I'm still fooling around with this door also. I had bought this door a few years ago and couldn't let it go. Recently I found this super cute Santa picture at Warehouse 55 and decided to put the two together. I'm still working on it but I like it so far.  It pays to hoard vintage tinsel. I can't wait to incorporate it into my Christmas decor.

I was looking for the most delicious pumpkin muffins at Fresh Thyme Market today but they didn't have them. Chocolate muffins would just have to do.  While checking out, I began talking to the lady behind me. She was buying pies and a beautiful orangey potted mum. After I checked out, she handed me the mum and said, "Happy Thanksgiving!" I was so touched and thankful that I gave her a spontaneous hug and she happily hugged me back. That act of kindness brought a tear to my eyes and warmth to my heart. Bless her for her kind actions. May we all do a random act of kindness to bring some small joy to another's life!

Welcome November

As I sit here typing this, we are expecting a few inches of snow. Again! Who would have thought that on Halloween we had 7.1" of snow.

At least we had some snow for the Holiday Open House at the Carriage House. It got everyone in the Christmas spirit! It was a fabulous Open House. We had people lining up a half hour before we opened. Then it was crazy busy for the first three hours. It was great!

These were from a recent estate sale that I took to the Open House. My heart always skips a couple of beats when I find vintage Christmas.

Just like it did when I found these musical ones. Those white chippy posts were an estate sale find also. I wrapped some poinsettia garland around them.

They look super cute for sitting on a mantel.

My trunk was so packed with vintage Christmas that I was taking to the Carriage House Open House that I couldn't even see out of the rear view mirror.

My space turned out really well....if I do say so....

Santa welcomed everyone coming out of a "chimney". Then vintage Christmas filled my space.

I can't wait now to start decorating my house for Christmas.

While at Christmas at the Farm, I found this elf for myself. I saw it across the room but since the flow of shoppers was going in one direction, I couldn't skip out of line.  Good thing no one else wanted him.

Another fun place to visit was the McNeil Mansion in Elgin. They had a Holiday Open House for the past two weekends. I finally visited it! They had the best dark chocolate salted caramel candy. I actually went back the next weekend to get more. The felted slippers, bags and hats were exceptional. So many other crafts and antiques were mixed in.

There is nothing like visiting all the Open Houses or shows this time of year to get you in the Christmas spirit.  It's my favorite time of year!

Urban Farmgirl in Rockford has a fun open house. They had a great hot cocoa bar and while you're on line paying, they come around with fabulous sugar cookies. An added bonus to shopping there.

There's also a fabulous farm truck out front of the store...

Make sure to keep checking for local sales. There are still estate sales going on as well as craft shows and local housewalks. Get in the spirit of the season! I know I am.
